‘D’ Course Overview

Purpose: To prepare coaches to work with youth teams (U6 to U12) in a participation environment.

Goals:

  • To create game-like training sessions that encourage players’ ownership (decision-making)
  • To create a game day environment that encourages players’ ownership (decision-making)
‘D’ Course Format

Nine weeks (Including summative assessment) with two in-person weekends.

Students who register for this course can expect weekly learning opportunities that will feature a mixture of independent learning using online modules, live virtual meetings, and in-person meetings led by a licensed U.S. Soccer Educator. Students should have access to the internet and a laptop/device with web camera/live video capabilities. The virtual meetings will take place on agreed-upon days and times. Students may be asked to participate in the in-person field component as either coaches or players, so please come prepared to actively learn.

In-person dates:

  • Friday, November 17 – Sunday, November 19
  • Friday, December 8 – Sunday, December 10

Classroom sessions will be held at the Twin Cities Soccer Leagues offices in Bloomington and/or Augsburg University (Minneapolis).

Field sessions will be held at Augsburg University and/or Academy of Holy Angels (Richfield).

To register for the U.S. Soccer D course, all applicants must meet the following prerequisites.

  • At least 18 years of age
  • Currently coaching or have access to a team U6-U12
  • Have completed Introduction to Grassroots Coaching
  • Have completed Two (2) GR in-person courses and one (1) GR online course

OR

  • Have completed Introduction to Grassroots Coaching
  • Previously Earned USSF E License

OR

  • Have completed Introduction to Grassroots Coaching
  • Previously Earned USSF F License
  • Two (2) Additional Grassroots In-Person (4v4, 7v7, or 9v9)
